Warangal, October 30 (Indian Chronicle):
Government-appointed Gram Panchayat Officers (GPOs) played a crucial role in shifting flood-affected families to rehabilitation centers in Hanumakonda district. Due to heavy rains, several colonies in the district were submerged under floodwaters.
When the Gopalapur lake embankment breached, surrounding areas were completely inundated. Revenue department staff, along with GPOs, worked tirelessly, helping residents reach safer locations and continuously updating higher officials about the situation.
Gopalapur GPO Shobharani displayed exceptional dedication during the crisis. Noticing that children and the elderly were struggling without food, she distributed breakfast, bread packets, and water bottles at her own expense. Later in the evening, she handed out pulihora packets supplied by the higher authorities to the victims.
In Vivekananda Colony, when a woman named Mamatha went into labor amid the floods, Shobharani immediately alerted the NDRF team, ensuring her safe transport to the hospital.
Revenue officials worked day and night to rescue several families and arranged temporary shelters with food, drinking water, and medical assistance. Under the supervision of the District Collector, teams continuously monitored the flooded colonies and evacuated people from high-risk areas.
Residents praised the officials for their timely help, saying, “We thought we had lost everything, but the officials reached us on time and gave us hope”
