Should we proceed or will you finally act – Supreme Court angered at the Telangana Assembly Speaker.
The BRS filed a complaint against the MLAs who defected from the BRS to the Congress. When a petition was filed in the Supreme Court, the apex court had earlier directed the Speaker to take a decision within three months. As that period ended without any decision, the BRS once again filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court. During the hearing, the Supreme Court issued crucial directives to the Speaker. The Supreme Court issued key orders to the Telangana Speaker, clearly stating that the disqualification cases of the MLAs must be heard on a day-to-day basis and a decision must be taken. Although the court had earlier directed that the inquiry be completed within three months, the delay made the Supreme Court serious. During the hearing of the fresh petition filed by the BRS, the court issued a contempt notice to the Speaker.
The Supreme Court directed that the disqualification petitions against the MLAs must be completed within four weeks. At the same time, the court questioned, ‘Will you take the decision or should we take it..??’. Following this, the government’s lawyer assured the court that the inquiry would be completed within four weeks. Post this assurance, the Supreme Court adjourned the case for four weeks.
