According to the police, a woman originally from Berinag in Pithoragarh district and currently residing at Janpath Road Transit Camp gave a complaint to the police. In which she said that the wife of councillor Shivkumar Gangwar, resident of Transit Camp Shivnagar, is her friend and on March 14 at 4 pm, she along with her fellow tenant, a 17-year-old girl, had gone to meet the councillor’s wife on Holi.
When they started returning home after celebrating Holi, the councillor also reached there. The woman alleges that during this time councillor Shivkumar Gangwar started making obscene gestures at her. He also molested her and behaved indecently. When she protested, the councillor and his wife abused her and snatched her mobile. They also beat her up. The victim had demanded action from the police against the accused councillor and his wife. Udham Singh Nagar SP Crime Niharika Tomar said that based on the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered against councilor Shivkumar Gangwar and a woman under relevant sections. Now further action will be taken.
