Hyderabad, Senior journalist and Charminar News Editor I Prabhakar stated in a press release that the field of journalism, widely known as the Fourth Estate in a democracy, has attained great importance and within it, the role of journalists is vital. On the occasion of National Journalism Day, observed on November 16, he explained to this correspondent the significance of journalism in society. In the modern world, journalists play a powerful role. For systems to function effectively, transparency and accountability are essential. Acting as a bridge between the public and the government, journalists contribute their part in addressing public issues and continue an unrelenting struggle in the field of journalism.

He noted that journalists are often described as the ‘Mirror of Society’. Beyond merely providing news, they offer various suggestions for resolving issues. They also create awareness among the public on numerous topics including social, economic, political, educational, technological, health-related and other matters in language that people can easily understand. By continuously monitoring government functioning as watchdogs, they play a key role in ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive government schemes. It is for these reasons that journalism is referred to as the Fourth Estate. He expressed hope that this day will help inform the public about responsible journalism and the active role journalists play in society and that the journalism profession will have a bright future in the years to come.
