
Malkajgiri Traffic Police conducted special weekend drunk-and-drive checks and caught 321 offenders.
Vehicle-wise cases:
Two Wheelers – 249
Three Wheelers – 11
Four Wheelers – 59
Heavy Vehicles – 2
Offenders based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels:
36 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml – 284 offenders
201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml – 26 offenders
301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml – 11 offenders
All offenders will be produced before the court.
Police stated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. If a person drives in a drunken condition and causes a fatal accident, a case will be registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder). The punishment can extend up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
