
Hyderabad, July 9: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday expressed Telangana’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games if India secures the event, stating that the state is preparing world-class sports infrastructure to support the bid. Speaking at Gachibowli Stadium, the Chief Minister, along with Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, inaugurated the Gachibowli Sports District and laid the foundation for the Young India Physical Education and Sports University.
The proposed university will be developed over 82 acres with international-standard facilities and is expected to be operational by December 2028. Revanth Reddy said Telangana has adopted a dedicated sports policy to promote excellence and nurture young talent. He announced that sportspersons who bring laurels to the country will be provided government jobs and assured full support for the development of sports in the state.
The Chief Minister also announced that Telangana will host the 2026 Khelo India Youth Games, the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet, Hockey India League, World Pickleball League, Archery Premier League, and Tennis Premier League events. On the occasion, cash incentives totalling ₹7.15 crore were distributed to six outstanding Telangana sportspersons, and the “Telangana Sports Knowledge on Wheels” initiative was launched to promote sports awareness across the state.
