13 Arrested in Medipally Housewarming Attack; Police Step Up Crackdown

MEDIPALLY, JUNE 29: Medipally Police have arrested 13 persons in connection with a violent attack that took place during a housewarming ceremony at Devender Nagar Colony in Boduppal. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of June 27 when a group of 15 to 20 persons allegedly arrived on motorcycles armed with sticks and hockey sticks following a dispute that had taken place earlier. The group allegedly assaulted Anoop Kumar and his family members, forcibly entered the house, vandalised household property, and damaged parked cars and motorcycles before fleeing the scene. Police also stated that a local journalist, Vishnu Goud, who was recording the incident on his mobile phone, was allegedly assaulted by the accused. Based on complaints, Medipally Police registered two criminal cases (Crime Nos. 935/2026 and 937/2026) and launched an investigation. Following the probe, police arrested 13 accused on June 28 and produced them before the court for remand. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects allegedly involved in the attack. Inspector D. Jalandhar Reddy said police would increase patrolling in Devender Nagar Colony to prevent such incidents and take strict action against anti-social elements involved in criminal activities.
