Hyderabad/Medchal, July 2: A group of journalists from Medchal–Malkajgiri district submitted a complaint to Information and Public Relations Commissioner Mukund Reddy and Joint Director Jagan, alleging that District Information and Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Swarnalatha has been acting with bias and targeting journalists. The complainants alleged that the DPRO handled the constitution of the accreditation committee and the issuance of accreditation cards in a one-sided manner by giving preference to a particular community and a single journalists’ union. They claimed that despite media reports highlighting the issue, no action has been taken so far. The journalists further alleged that there has been an undue delay in issuing accreditation cards even to eligible applicants who fulfilled the government-prescribed criteria. They also claimed that approved accreditation cards have not been distributed and that unnecessary delays are being caused in processing bus pass approvals, forcing journalists to make repeated visits to the office. They alleged that the official lacks proper understanding in processing government advertisements for newspapers and has been resorting to retaliatory action against those questioning her functioning. The journalists requested the Commissioner to order a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations and appoint a competent District Information and Public Relations Officer for Medchal–Malkajgiri district. Journalists’ association leaders Merugu Chandramohan, Belide Ashok Gupta, Muthyam Mukesh Goud, Vasu Kumar, Venugopal Reddy, and others were present during the submission of the complaint.
