DIG of Prisons participates in cleanliness campaign as part of lake restoration project

Cherlapally, July 18: A Shramdaan and Swachhata (cleanliness) programme was organised at Cherlapally Lake on Saturday under the initiative of the Prison Department as part of the ongoing lake restoration project.

Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (Hyderabad Range) Dr. D. Srinivas participated as the chief guest. The programme forms part of the Cherlapally Lake restoration and rejuvenation project being undertaken by the Prisons Department with technical support from HYDRAA and CSR funding from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

Following the directions of Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services Dr. Soumya Mishra, IPS, officials and staff of Cherlapally Central Prison and the Prisoners’ Agricultural Farm joined hands with representatives of the Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA), Cherlapally, in a cleanliness drive aimed at making the lake plastic-free.

Participants removed plastic waste and cleaned the lake surroundings to promote environmental conservation and public awareness on maintaining clean water bodies.

Among those present were Prisoners’ Agricultural Farm Superintendent D. Bharat, Cherlapally Central Prison Superintendent Pramod, IALA Chairman Govind Reddy, Deputy Chairman Srinivas Reddy, CIA Vice-President Sudhakar Reddy, Venkatesham, deputy superintendents, jailers, deputy jailers, prison staff, and IALA representatives.
