Tadoori Gagan Kumar, State Media Convener of the Telangana Activists Forum, was taken into preventive custody by Jawahar Nagar police early this morning. Police personnel reportedly reached his residence at around 6:00 AM and shifted him to the police station. The preventive arrest was carried out amid inputs that members of the forum might attempt to lay siege to the State Assembly as part of their ongoing protest demanding the government to fulfill assurances given to Telangana activists. He was later released at around 10:00 AM. According to forum sources, although a plan had initially been made to organize an Assembly siege, the program was postponed after Forum President Oruganti Anand recently met the Chief Minister and received a positive response regarding their demands. However, suspecting possible attempts by activists to proceed with the protest, police conducted preventive arrests of Telangana Activists Forum members across the state. The forum stated that despite the postponement of today’s program, the agitation will continue, and the Assembly siege will be carried out at a later date if there is any delay in the implementation of promises made to Telangana activists.
